MTSU Haiti Internship Experience

MTSU Haiti internshipThree students from the MTSU CIM program spent eight weeks living in the Haiti Outreach Ministries (HOM) compound working on rebuilding from the devastating earthquake of 2010. Funding for the trip was generously provided by the CIM Patrons and the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) to support flight and expenses.

Student activities included estimating, scheduling, concrete wall and column formwork design, reinforcing bar takeoff, equipment management, and equipment maintenance. Since the work site was at sea level and in a flood zone, the site was raised with rubble from other buildings destroyed in the earthquake. There were clothes, shoes, family photos, dinnerware, and other such personal items mixed throughout the rubble.
