MTSU CIM Works with Tennessee Concrete Association on Net Zero Shelter

Tennessee Concrete Association (TCA) is working on an exciting project with Middle Tennessee groups from the local AIA and USGBC chapters, and faculty from Middle Tennessee State University and Lipscomb University, to design and build a simple, modular shelter (featuring concrete construction) that could be quickly built for immediate shelter needs after a disaster such as the recent flooding in Nashville. The module could then be incorporated into a larger permanent dwelling on the site. One of our design goals is to make the project a net-zero impact structure, and we will be developing a masters-level classroom curriculum on Integrated Project Design as we go. This class will be utilized in the Masters curriculum that is currently being developed at MTSU for the CIM program.

The project will feature a number of innovative products and techniques to help us achieve net-zero status. If you have a product that you would like to feature in this project, contact Alan Sparkman at TCA to discuss.
